Keikyu EX Inn Haneda — Stay Review

Keikyu EX Inn Haneda is a hotel operated by the Keikyu railway company that opened in November 2017. For an overnight stay before our early morning flight to London, we stayed here in June 2018. We booked a standard twin room.

Keikyu EX Inn Haneda — Pre-Flight Stay

The night before departure, we stayed at Keikyu EX Inn Haneda, the hotel closest to Haneda Airport — our second stay here following our visit the previous year. It opened in October 2017 so everything still feels fresh and pleasant. Take the local Tokyo Monorail from Hamamatsucho towards Haneda Airport and get off at Tenkubashi Station — the hotel is visible straight ahead as you exit the ticket gates. Due to the road layout you have to take a slight detour, but you can reach the hotel entrance in under five minutes. Just across the road from the hotel is airport land, where you can see plenty of aircraft — a treat for children and aviation enthusiasts alike.

The free large bus shuttle service to Haneda Airport is very convenient, running 2-3 times per hour from 4am to 9am. Guests heading to the airport in the morning can check out by simply inserting their room card into the self-checkout machine next to the bus stop — quick and easy. The free evening shuttle from the airport back to the hotel runs from around 6pm to the last service at 11pm, making late arrivals equally convenient.

Keikyu Inn Haneda — First Night

Check-in at 3pm. As the hotel only opened in November 2017, it still has that new-build smell — very clean. We had actually stayed here once before, shortly after its December 2017 opening. Comparing then and now, there are more staff at reception, and the service is notably more efficient than before.

The reception area. On the second floor where the front desk is located, there is a coffee machine available at any time, a handy amenity bar, and a lounge with seating and internet access. There is no restaurant in the building, but there's a FamilyMart just 2-3 minutes' walk away, and a Seven-Eleven vending machine in the lounge for light snacks. There is also a coin laundry with an iron, allowing guests to do laundry at low cost. Each guest floor has a trouser press, which business travellers will find useful.

The Lounge is a Highlight!

The lounge is right next to reception. The internet connection worked seamlessly even before check-in, so even though we arrived well before our 3pm check-in time, we managed to get a good amount of work done. Free coffee was a welcome bonus. The nearby FamilyMart, just 3 minutes' walk away, was also very handy.

The Double Room

The most important things about a hotel stay are being able to keep clean and sleep soundly. The beds here are Simmons originals, developed jointly by Keikyu Inn and the luxury bed brand Simmons — the same beds found in many high-end hotels. The firm mattress was just right for us, the Egyptian cotton linens felt wonderful against the skin, and we slept deeply. The pillows were slightly smaller than those at overseas hotels, but were very comfortable. Full marks for the bedding!

A spacious bathroom. Our room on the 9th floor was a twin, but it came with a full Japanese-style bathtub. We bought some bath salts at FamilyMart and enjoyed a long soak — bliss.

The room's fittings are all the latest models, being a new hotel. The toilet lid opens automatically as you approach, the light comes on, and the flush is automatic — overseas guests must find it quite startling. The in-room pyjamas are made of high-quality cotton waffle fabric and felt lovely against the skin — we actually wished we could have them at home.

Breakfast at Keikyu EX Inn Haneda

Breakfast is served from 5am to 10am with a choice of Western or Japanese style. The taste and variety are fairly basic — it's more of a school-dinner-style breakfast with modest portions. Good for putting something in your stomach before heading to the airport, rather than a lavish meal.

Coffee after the meal and the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper are both complimentary.

We will certainly use this hotel again for future Haneda flights.
